Season board
What Salt Lake pests are doing right now
Utah pests keep a calendar. The board opens on the current season, so you can see what is active, where it shows up and what helps before you call.
Spring: swarmers, ant trails and what the snow hid
What wakes up
Subterranean termites send out winged swarmers, and ant trails start showing up on counters and patios as the soil warms.
Where you see it
Vole runways one to two inches wide and chewed bark on young trees appear across lawns as the snow melts.
What helps
Rodents winter in garages, cabins and storage units, so spring cleanup is when exposure happens. Wet droppings down first and never sweep or vacuum them.
Sources: USU Extension, KSL
Summer: nests, stings and West Nile mosquitoes
What wakes up
Paper wasps build under eaves statewide, bald-faced hornets hang gray paper nests in tree branches, and yellowjackets nest in shallow holes in the ground.
Where you see it
Salt Lake County has three mosquito abatement districts, and mosquito season runs until the first hard freeze. Yard water is where it starts.
What helps
In 2026 the county reported about six times the usual number of West Nile positive mosquito samples. Dump standing water weekly and call before a nest by a door turns into stings.
Sources: Wild About Utah, Salt Lake County, KUTV
Fall: wandering spiders, sunny-wall bugs and mice moving in
What wakes up
Hobo spiders turn up inside Utah homes from August through October, when males wander looking for mates.
Where you see it
Boxelder bugs pile onto sun-heated, south-facing walls in August and September, then push indoors to spend the winter.
What helps
Salt Lake City's average first freeze lands around October 20. Seal gaps under garage doors and around pipes before then, while mice are still looking for a way in.
Sources: USU Extension, Axios Salt Lake City
Winter: rodents indoors and voles under the snow
What wakes up
Mice and rats that got in during fall nest in wall voids, attics and garages, and droppings build up along the same routes.
Where you see it
Voles keep tunneling under snow cover all winter. The runways and girdled trees stay hidden until the melt.
What helps
With pests packed indoors, winter is a good time for exclusion work and bed bug treatment. Keep firewood off the siding and storage off the garage floor.

Quick answer
Most Salt Lake City homes do best with an exterior treatment in spring and again in fall, plus fast help for summer wasp nests and for mice once the nights drop toward freezing. Hobo spiders and boxelder bugs peak from August into October. If something is biting, stinging or chewing right now, call (801) 516-0135 at any hour.
How we handle it
Inspection first, then treatment where the pest actually lives
Pest problems here follow the seasons and the houses. A lot of the valley's homes have basements, window wells and older foundations, and those are the doors that spiders, earwigs and mice walk through. Sunny siding pulls in boxelder bugs every September. Lawns lose ground to voles under the snow. None of that is solved by a quick spray at the front door.
Calls to Craig's Pest Service are answered around the clock, and every visit starts with an inspection: the window wells, the garage edges, the eaves, the foundation line and wherever you saw the problem. Then we treat where the pest lives, seal the gaps it uses where we can, and tell you plainly what will help between visits.
We work in houses, rentals, apartment buildings, restaurants and warehouses across Salt Lake, Davis, Weber, Box Elder, Morgan, Tooele and Utah counties. Pick a one-time visit for a single problem, or a quarterly plan timed to what Utah pests do each season.

Warning signs
Signs it is past the do-it-yourself stage
Any one of these is worth a call. Two together usually means the problem is inside the walls, not just at the door.
Sign 01
Webs and egg sacs in window wells
Tangled webs low in the well or along basement windows usually mean black widows or funnel-weavers have settled in.
Sign 02
Droppings along walls or in drawers
Small dark pellets by the garage wall, under the sink or in a pantry drawer mean mice are moving on a regular route.
Sign 03
Mud tubes on the foundation
Pencil-width dirt tubes climbing concrete or crawlspace piers are how subterranean termites reach wood.
Sign 04
Steady traffic at one spot
Wasps flying in and out of a gap in the siding, a soffit or a hole in the lawn point to a nest you cannot see.
Sign 05
Bites in a line and spots on sheets
Itchy bites in a row after sleeping, plus rusty spots on the mattress seams, are the classic bed bug pair.
Local conditions
Why Salt Lake homes get the pests they do
Salt Lake City's housing is older than most people assume: the median home was built in 1965, and about a quarter of homes predate 1940. Older foundations, basement window wells and settled sill plates leave the gaps that spiders, mice and boxelder bugs use. Timing matters here too. Hobo spiders wander indoors from August through October, boxelder bugs crowd south-facing walls in August and September, and the average first freeze arrives around October 20, which is when mice start pushing inside for good.
That is why our fall visits focus on window wells, garage door seals and utility gaps, and our spring visits focus on foundations, lawns and the first ant trails. For the full picture on sealing before the freeze, read our guide to mice and the first freeze.

Plans and pricing
One visit or a plan: what each one costs
Both start with an inspection. The difference is whether you are fixing one problem or keeping the whole year covered.
One visit
One-time treatment
$100 to $260
Typical range for a single exterminator visit. Bigger full-service jobs often run $200 to $600.
- One problem in one spot: a wasp nest, an ant trail, one room
- Inspection first, then treatment where the pest lives
- Good for move-ins, rentals between tenants and one-off surprises
- Easy to switch to a plan if the problem keeps coming back
Four visits a year
Quarterly plan
$100 to $300 per quarter
Typical Salt Lake City range for quarterly service.
- Spring start-up visit for ants, termite swarmers and early wasps
- Summer visit aimed at nests and stinging insects
- Fall visit for spiders, boxelder bugs and rodent entry points
- Winter rodent check for garages, attics and crawlspaces
Ranges are published market figures from Angi and HomeYou, checked September 2026. Your price depends on the home, the pest and how far it has spread, and we give it to you on the phone or at the inspection. More detail in our Salt Lake City pest control cost guide.
How a visit works
Five steps from the first call to a quiet house
Same order on every job, whether it is one wasp nest or a restaurant kitchen.
Call and describe it
Tell us what you are seeing and where. The more detail you give, the better we can plan the visit and bring the right gear.
Inspect inside and out
Window wells, garage edges, eaves, the foundation line and the attic hatch. We find where it lives and how it gets in.
Treat the source
Baits, dusts, targeted sprays or traps, chosen for that pest and that spot, not a blanket fog through the house.
Seal and advise
We point out or close entry points and tell you what to change, like firewood against the siding or a gap under the garage door.
Follow up
Some pests take a second visit to finish. When the job calls for one, we schedule it and tell you why.

Most calls start with one question: what is this bug?
Describe it or send us to it. We will tell you what it is, whether it matters and what it takes to fix.
Call (801) 516-0135Side yards, window wells and garage edges: most of the work happens where you rarely look.
How we work
What you can expect from every technician
Inspect before we treat
Treatment starts once we know the pest, the nest and the way in. Guessing wastes product and your money.
Treat where it lives
Baits and dusts go into voids, runways and nest sites, where they work, instead of across your floors.
Close the doors pests use
Window wells, weep holes, pipe gaps and garage seals get checked and closed where we can, so the problem stays solved.
Plain answers
You hear what we found, what we used and what you can do between visits, in plain words, before we leave.
Where we work
Seven counties, one phone number
Our trucks run out of the Salt Lake City service office on Redwood Road and the Clearfield office in Davis County, so the valley and the northern Wasatch Front are covered from both ends. Tooele County and northern Utah County run out of the Salt Lake City office.
Salt Lake County gets the most calls for spiders, mice and mosquitoes near the Jordan River. Davis, Weber and Box Elder bring more wasp, vole and boxelder bug work, and Morgan County homes tend to call about rodents and wildlife.

What draws them to sunny siding, and how to keep them from wintering indoors.
Read the guideField guide 03Cleaning up mouse droppings safely in Utah
Why you never sweep or vacuum droppings, and the wet-cleanup method that is safer.
Read the guideMost homes do well with four seasonal visits a year, or at least a spring and a fall exterior treatment. Homes with a single, one-off problem can start with a one-time visit and add a plan only if it comes back.
Utah State University Extension names the black widow as the major spider of medical concern in Utah, and the CDC does not list hobo spiders among spiders venomous to people. Hobo spiders are still unwelcome in a basement, and we treat both.
Nests grow through summer and are at their biggest and most defensive in late summer. Paper wasps build under eaves, bald-faced hornets hang nests in trees and yellowjackets usually nest in the ground.
No. Utah health officials say never to sweep or vacuum rodent droppings, because it puts dust in the air. Utah sees roughly one hantavirus case a year. Wet the droppings with disinfectant first, then wipe them up, or have us handle the cleanup.
Yes. We service restaurants, apartment buildings, warehouses and other commercial sites, with visit schedules and records built around inspections and your operating hours.
Published ranges put a single exterminator visit at about $100 to $260 and quarterly service in Salt Lake City at about $100 to $300 per quarter. Termites and bed bugs cost more. We give you a price on the phone or at the inspection.
Yes. The phone is answered 24/7. Most calls are booked straight onto our own schedule; if we are fully booked or it is an emergency that cannot wait, we may forward you to another trusted local provider so you still get help.
