Tooele County sits west of the Oquirrh Mountains, across from the Salt Lake Valley. Much of its growth is new subdivisions in Stansbury Park, Erda, Lake Point and around Tooele and Grantsville, built right next to open desert and farmland.

As of August 22, 2026, Utah had reported 1,050 West Nile positive mosquito pools, and Tooele County accounted for 20 of them, so mosquito season reaches this side of the Oquirrhs too. Elm seed bugs have spread here as well: first confirmed in Utah in 2014, they're now widely distributed along the Wasatch Front and have been reported as far as Tooele County, where they pile onto hot walls in mid-summer.
